Last year I made a goal to write 10 poems for the month of April to celebrate Poetry Month. I had no goal this year but I jotted down one poem. I outdid my expectations.
Last Call
4/15/14
The Eucharist, communion
The Christians’ “last call”
Live feed the signal
From the pastor’s lapel
To a megaphone
Duct taped to the steeple
Pews the new bar stools
Seats for all
In the Jesus wine bar
Serving hair of the dog
To Saturday night’s disciples
They’ll scream blasphemy
A market in the temple
But we got tired of green Jell-o
And paying Pat Robertson
To pray for us
